On This Day... 20th April

Jamie and the Doctor bade farewell to Victoria today in 1968, in the sixth and final episode of Fury From The Deep. However, she'd be glimpsed at the start of the following episode, and get a credit.
1974 saw The Monster of Peladon move on to its fifth instalment - the penultimate episode of Jon Pertwee's penultimate story.
The Doctor and Clara, meanwhile, were visiting an apparently haunted house in Hide today in 2013.
This story was heavily influenced by the Quatermass serials, and at one point the Professor himself was going to feature. Nigel Kneale did not like Doctor Who as he thought it too juvenile - and was sick of people stealing his ideas for it. Next week (28th April) sees the centenary of Kneale's birth.

Today we wish Louise Jameson a happy 71st birthday. She portrayed Sevateem warrior Leela in Seasons 14 and 15. She and Tom Baker failed to hit it off, only warming to each other towards the end of Season 15 when she had already made plans to leave the series. They get on much better these days when they work on the audios together. Baker disliked the character of Leela, and this seemed to translate to the person playing her. Jameson was a regular on EastEnders for a while, starring opposite one of her Face of Evil co-stars Leslie Schofield, but she has recently moved away from Walford and settled in Frazer Hines' old stomping ground of Emmerdale.
Jameson shares her birthday with Ray Brooks - voice of Mr Ben and the big screen version of David in Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150AD. He turns 83.
