On This Day... 12th March

The second episode of The Ark was The Plague, and it made its debut today in 1966.
In 1977, The Talons of Weng-Chiang reached its mid-point with Part Three.
During the period when Doctor Who was off the air, it was not forgotten. A certain sitcom writer named Steven Moffat, known to be a fan of the series, was given the opportunity to write a comic adventure which would form part of the 1999 Comic Relief night. He came up with The Curse of Fatal Death, which featured Rowan Atkinson as a ninth incarnation of the Doctor, with Jonathan Pryce as the Master and Julia Sawalha as his companion. Daleks featured as well - voiced for the final time by Roy Skelton.
The Doctor regenerated into other guest stars - Hugh Grant, Jim Broadbent and Richard E Grant, before settling on the first ever female Doctor - Joanna Lumley.
Finally, in 2008, Torchwood's second series delivered From Out Of The Rain, which was written by Sapphire & Steel's PJ Hammond and featured Julian Bleach (the new Davros) as the creepy Ghostmaker.
