The Invasion of the Dinosaurs came to an end today in 1974 with its sixth instalment.
Reptiles of another kind threatened the Doctor in 1982, with Part Two of The Visitation, whilst another Davison Part Two was that of Terminus, on the same day in 1983.
The Two Doctors got underway in 1985. The two - Patrick Troughton and Colin Baker - would only spend a few minutes together on screen towards the end of the story, which was a bit of a wasted opportunity. Writer Robert Holmes hated this story, owing to the shopping list of elements JNT wanted included - the two Doctors, a foreign location, Sontarans, and an old six episode running time.
Finally, in 2020, Series 12 moved towards its conclusion with The Haunting of Villa Diodati. This acted as the first chapter of a trilogy of stories which formed the series finale.
Today we wish Christopher Eccleston a very happy 58th birthday. He played the Ninth Doctor in the 2005 series, quitting only a week after it had first stated broadcasting. He has kept his distance from the series until recently, when he returned to the role on audio.
He shares his birthday with June Brown, best know for playing Dot Cotton in EastEnders, but who once appeared as lady Eleanor in The Time Warrior. She is 95 today. Also in that story was Jeremy Bulloch, who played the archer Hal. He would have been 77 today.
Another birthday is that of Patricia Maynard, who played Miss Winters in Robot. She turns 80.
