Last week Doctor Who gave us its first story which used Halloween as a backdrop. November 5th - Guy Fawkes Night or Bonfire Night - has never been used as a backdrop, even though it originates from a notable incident in British history. Series 11 featured King James I (and VI), but went for his obsession with witches, rather than the attempt to assassinate him. The only time the Gunpowder Plot has been used by Doctor Who has been in spin-off media. - games and books.
What we have had on this date is the opening instalment of The Power of the Daleks in 1966 - the first appearance by Patrick Troughton as the Doctor. Whilst credited to David Whitaker, the new Doctor's persona was the work of Dennis Spooner, with contributions from Gerry Davis and Troughton himself.
The episode was actually held back in production by a week, just so they could get this right.
In 1977, Image of the Fendahl reached its second episode.
Two episodes of The Sarah Jane Adventures have debuted on this date - the second part of Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane? in 2007; and The Eternity Trap Part One in 2009.
Torchwood's Cyberwoman also premiered on this day, in 2006. This was written by Chris Chibnall, and it shows.
Finally, Class gave us Co-Owner of a Lonely Heart today in 2016.
