On This Day... 3rd November

The Creature from the Pit moved on to its second episode today in 1979.
In 2008, the second series of The Sarah Jane Adventures delivered Part One of The Mark of the Berserker.
Today we should remember the first actor to essay the role of the First Doctor after the death of William Hartnell. This was Richard Hurndall, who took on the part for The Five Doctors in 1983. Producer John Nathan-Turner had seen Hurndall in an episode of Blake's 7, in which he sported long white hair, and this had reminded him of Hartnell's look.
Sadly, this was one of Hurndall's last TV roles, as he passed away less than a year later - on 3rd November 1984. He was 73.

  1. The last sentence above suggests that Richard Hurndall passed away on 3rd November 1984. In fact the 3rd November (1910) was in fact Richard Hurndall's birthday and not the date of his sad passing, Richard Hurndall actually passed away on 13th April 1984.
