The simple-minded janitor of the Psychic Circus, encountered by the Doctor and Ace on the planet Segonax. Deadbeat wore a pedant around his neck, with an eye motif. The Doctor noticed this symbol recurring around the circus. He later learned that Deadbeat used to be called Kingpin, and he was the leader of the circus troupe. On arriving on this planet the circus had fallen under the malign influence of the Gods of Ragnarok, and they had broken his mind. Part of the pendant was missing - hidden in the battered old tour bus they had travelled in, and guarded by a deadly robot bus conductor. When the other part of the pendant was retrieved, it created a weapon that the Doctor could use against the Gods, and also restored Deadbeat's mental balance - making him Kingpin once again. He and Mags decided to establish a new Psychic Circus.
