A peasant boy from the village of Little Hodcombe, who found himself transported through time from 1643 to 1984. The Doctor found him hiding in the ruined church. The Doctor had brought Tegan to the village to visit her grandfather - local historian Andrew Verney. He has been missing since the squire - Sir George Hutchinson - began the reenactment of the Civil War battle which had been fought here. Will had witnessed this first hand, and was able to tell the Doctor about the appearance of the gargoyle-like Malus which had materialised during the conflict. This creature was about to reawaken, and this is what had caused the time-slip that had carried Will to the present day. The Malus was influencing Sir George to recreate the battle in earnest, as it fed on hostile emotions.
As the Malus came to life in the church, Will shoved the squire into its gaping maw, killing him. The psychic link broken, the creature was destroyed. The Doctor agreed to take Will back to 1643 once Tegan had spent some time with her relative.
Played by: Keith Jayne. Appearances: The Awakening (1984).
- There could have been a longer list of appearances for Will, as producer JNT had toyed with the idea of making him a companion.
- Jayne is best remembered for playing another character out of time - Stig of the Dump - in the 1981 TV adaptation of Clive King's children's novel.
