An excellent choice for the Twelfth as far as I'm concerned. Glad that they have decided to stay with the same gender and ethnicity. I've always worried anything else would smack of tokenism.
Glad they've gone for someone a little older as well. Capaldi is a very good actor, who can handle comedy and tragedy equally well. Look at his two Doctor Who performances to date - the comedic Caecilius in The Fires of Pompeii, and the doomed Frobisher in Torchwood: Children of Earth.
He is a self-confessed fan of the programme, so he'll certainly treat the role with respect.
And, if you'll pardon my bias, it's another Scotsman in the TARDIS.
Just a pity that we might not actually get to see him properly in action for over a year.
The launch programme was not as cringe-worthy as I feared. Mostly recorded material (neither Smith nor Moffat were in attendance). A few rent-a-celebs.
It will be interesting to see what the viewing figures were like for the show.
