Mr Moffat has been talking a lot lately about his reluctance to revisit old monsters, preferring to concentrate on looking forward. However, he has given us revamped Daleks, is about to give us redesigned Cybermen, and has brought back the Silurians. The Ice Warriors are due back in the next but one story. He has also reused RTD Daleks and Sontarans. We have now learned that the Zygons will be appearing in the 50th Anniversary story. To release an image on the very first day suggests either that they are incidental to the plot and not necessarily the chief villain(s), or that it was judged impossible to keep them a secret due to some of the planned filming locations.
It's a very faithful redesign for one of my favourite monsters, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them again.
A couple of pictures have been released from the read-through - revealing another guest artist. Joanna Page, of Gavin & Stacey fame has been linked to the programme before. She joins John Hurt and Ken Bones, who is playing a character called the General.
Also seen during the filming today was a Tudor field tent, set up beside a castle ruin. There seems to be some confusion over the Special's running time, with some sites saying 60 minutes and others 90.
