Biggest news of the week is obviously the return of the Cybermen in Neil Gaiman's episode for next year - and they've had a redesign. Gaiman says he wants to make them scary again - and as this exclusive picture shows they are now truly terrifying. In another nod to the past, they are also very cheap looking.
If you really want to see the genuine articles, I refer you to my post yesterday which has a link. As I said then, how they will be employed is far more important than what they might look like. The episode features Tamzin Outhwaite, Warwick Davis and the brilliant Jason Watkins.
If that was good news of the week, the bad is Colin Baker's insane decision to take part in a certain reality TV show. To simply agree to take part is to admit you are on the lowermost rungs of the celebrity ladder. People always try to justify this sort of a nonsense as if it is a serious sociological experiment - but it isn't. It's a bunch of non-entities being ridiculed and humiliated for the entertainment of morons. As you may have already guessed, I shan't be watching.
That previous cover was a mock-up. The real DWM 454 has Paul McGann on the cover. An audio Doctor talking about his costume? For heaven's sake... If Big Finish - a commercial company that sells merchandise - paid for all the free publicity they receive from DWM we would only be paying about half the cover price. I'm annoyed, after last month featuring KG on the cover, that this issue doesn't have a Rory cover for AD's interview. It looks like The Gunfighters will be the Fact of Fiction, whose presence I missed last month.
The cover of the next Quick Reads book has been released - The Silurian Gift by effects man and subsequent author Mike Tucker. I mention it mainly because he has had the gall to actually bring back the Myrka, judging by the cover image. A brave man indeed.
Lastly, Arthur Darvill's 2011 Globe Theatre performance as Mephistopheles in Dr. Faustus will be released on DVD as of Monday 3rd December, following its limited theatrical release. RRP will be £19.99, though it is available for pre-order on Amazon for £18.75.
